英字新聞を読み解く!!!Vol.489難易度★☆☆☆☆

英字新聞を読むには各単語の形式を知ることが大事!

英語を勉強し始めたばかりの段階だと、教材と違って英字新聞を読むのはかなり難しいと思います。それぞれの新聞が独自の書き方をもっていたりもするので。なので、僕が補足をつけながら、英字新聞を読むのお手伝いしようと思います。教材の文法には慣れたけど英字新聞はまだ苦手という、初級ー中級あたりの人用の解説です。

何回も言いますが、新聞を読むためには各々の単語が名詞(noun)なのか、形容詞(adjective)なのか、副詞(adverb)なのかがめちゃくちゃ大事になってきます!文法はほんっっっっっっとうに大事です!!!一緒に一つずつやっていきましょう!僕の勉強がわりにもなっているので、僕が知っていることは飛ばしていたりします。なので、何かわからないことがあれば気軽にコメントください。できるだけ答えます!よろしくお願いします 😉

keen (adjective)

This is the groundbreaking new advert by Gillette which shows a transgender man shaving for the first time.

Supported by his father, Samson Bonkeabantu Brown is filmed discussing his transition before moving to the bathroom to shave for the first time. 

Mr Brown, of Ontario, says to the camera: ‘Growing up, I was trying to figure out what man I wanted to become.

‘I went into my transition just wanting to be happy.’

After Mr Brown and his father move to the bathroom, he is seen getting out a Gillette razor.

Before he takes the razor to his face his mimics how he will do it and says: ‘South, south, north, north, east, west. Never in a hurry.’ 

While his fingers tremble his father says: ‘Now don’t be scared.

‘Shaving is about being confident.’

He then says: ‘Oh you’re doing fine, you are doing fine.’

At the end of the advert, Mr Brown says: ‘I am finally at the point in my manhood where I’m actually happy.’

go into sth (phrasal verb)

mimic (noun)

Macmillan Dictionary によると ” someone who is able to copy the voice, behaviour, or appearance of someone else という風に記載されていますね。

例文:

She’s a fantastic mimic.

To tremble (verb)

Macmillan Dictionary によると ” if your body or part of your body trembles, it shakes, usually because you are nervous, afraid, or excited という風に記載されていますね。

例文:

Adam’s hands began to tremble as he opened the letter.

She was trembling with anger.

When he came out of the water, he was trembling with cold.

His voice started to tremble, and I thought he was going to cry.

manhood (noun)

Macmillan Dictionary によると ” the time when someone becomes a man という風に記載されていますね。

例文:

a boy on the brink of manhood

In a post on Facebook Mr Brown wrote: ‘With the help of Gillette, I was able to share an important milestone in every man’s life with my father.

‘This moment overwhelmed me during filming and again today seeing the ad since it’s been launched.

‘I’m keenly aware of how blessed I am to be able to exist in this world being supported by my family in ways that all too often many of my trans brothers, sisters, and siblings who exist outside the binary are not always as fortunate.’

The advert sent social media users into a frenzy as they flocked to Twitter to show their support.

One user, Wayne Rogers, said: ‘This is so good, wonderful story and advert together. Well done Gillette for getting out there. Congrats Samson.

Another said: ‘This is the kind of representation transgender people need and deserve. Also, a great example of positive masculinity. Good on you Gillette.’

While most users were overjoyed with the inclusive message Gillette was sending out, others weren’t so happy. 

One user wrote: ‘I don’t want to watch this stuff sorry. And I don’t want to think of social issues when I buy razors. So no more Gillette for me.’

trans (adjective)

Macmillan Dictionary によると ” short for transgender or transsexual という風に記載されていますね。

binary (noun)

Cambridge Dictionary によると ” consisting of two parts という風に記載されていますね。

例文:

The markets face a simple binary decision – stay or go.

masculinity (noun)

Cambridge Dictionary によると ” to watch an activity or event without taking part in it という風に記載されていますね。

例文:

the qualities that are thought to be typical of men

overjoyed (adjective)

Macmillan Dictionary によると ” extremely pleased という風に記載されていますね。

例文:

We’re overjoyed at your news.

I’m overjoyed that you’re coming to visit me.
