英字新聞を読むには各単語の形式を知ることが大事！
英語を勉強し始めたばかりの段階だと、教材と違って英字新聞を読むのはかなり難しいと思います。それぞれの新聞が独自の書き方をもっていたりもするので。なので、僕が補足をつけながら、英字新聞を読むのお手伝いしようと思います。教材の文法には慣れたけど英字新聞はまだ苦手という、初級ー中級あたりの人用の解説です。
何回も言いますが、新聞を読むためには各々の単語が名詞（noun）なのか、形容詞（adjective）なのか、副詞（adverb）なのかがめちゃくちゃ大事になってきます！文法はほんっっっっっっとうに大事です！！！一緒に一つずつやっていきましょう！僕の勉強がわりにもなっているので、僕が知っていることは飛ばしていたりします。なので、何かわからないことがあれば気軽にコメントください。できるだけ答えます！よろしくお願いします 😉

fall flat on your face (phrase)
Macmillan Dictionaryによると ” to fall forwards so that you are lying on your front “という風に記載されていますね。

be overcome with emotion (verb)
Macmillan Dictionaryによると ” to make someone very emotional, weak, ill, or unconscious “という風に記載されていますね。
例文：
The entire family was overcome with grief.
Overcome with/by emotion, she found herself unable to speak for a few minutes.
make a beeline (noun)
Macmillan Dictionary によると ” to go towards someone or something in the quickest and most direct way “という風に記載されていますね。
例文：
At parties he always makes a beeline for the prettiest woman in the room.
When he saw me in the kitchen, he made a beeline for the door.
To stem (verb)
Cambridge Dictionaryによると ” to stop the flow of a liquid such as blood: “という風に記載されていますね。
例文：
Joan breathed in deeply, trying to stem her tears.
She tied a handkerchief around the wound to stem the flow of blood.

He escapes to Earth where he is adopted by a girl called Lilo, who mistakes him for a dog, and names him Stitch.
destructive (adjective)
Cambridge Dictionary によると ” causing severe damage or harm “という風に記載されていますね。
例文：
the bomb’s enormous destructive power
the destructive power of nuclear weapons
I worry about the destructive effect that violent films may have on children.
Lack of trust is very destructive in a relationship.
life form (noun)
Macmillan Dictionaryによると ” a living thing, for example an animal or a plant “という風に記載されていますね。
To exile (verb)
Macmillan Dictionaryによると ” to force someone to live in a foreign country, usually for political reasons “という風に記載されていますね。
例文：
Napoleon was first exiled in 1814.
His father had been exiled to France.
mistake for (phrasal verb)
Macmillan Dictionaryによると ” to think that a person or thing is someone or something else “という風に記載されていますね。
例文：
I had mistaken friendship for love.
I often mistake her for her mother on the phone.
The gunman had mistaken him for a drug dealer.
