英字新聞を読み解く!!!Vol.305難易度★★☆☆☆

英字新聞を読むには各単語の形式を知ることが大事!

英語を勉強し始めたばかりの段階だと、教材と違って英字新聞を読むのはかなり難しいと思います。それぞれの新聞が独自の書き方をもっていたりもするので。なので、僕が補足をつけながら、英字新聞を読むのお手伝いしようと思います。教材の文法には慣れたけど英字新聞はまだ苦手という、初級ー中級あたりの人用の解説です。

何回も言いますが、新聞を読むためには各々の単語が名詞(noun)なのか、形容詞(adjective)なのか、副詞(adverb)なのかがめちゃくちゃ大事になってきます!文法はほんっっっっっっとうに大事です!!!一緒に一つずつやっていきましょう!僕の勉強がわりにもなっているので、僕が知っていることは飛ばしていたりします。なので、何かわからないことがあれば気軽にコメントください。できるだけ答えます!よろしくお願いします 😉

hit/beat/knock someone over the head (phrase)

Macmillan Dictionaryによると ” to deliberately hit the top of someone’s head with an object というふうに記載されていますね。

例文:

She hit him over the head with a champagne bottle.

To snooze (verb)

Macmillan Dictionaryによると ” to sleep for a short period of time, especially during the day というふうに記載されていますね。

例文:

The dog‘s snoozing in front of the fire.

Dad likes to snooze in front of the TV.

The old man was snoozing in the shade.

I snoozed through the whole film.

To slump (verb)

Macmillan Dictionaryによると ” to suddenly fall or sit because you are very tired or unconscious というふうに記載されていますね。

例文:

Sam’s body slumped to the floor.

She slumped into the chair, exhausted.

To whack (verb)

Macmillan Dictionaryによると ” to hit someone or something with a lot of force というふうに記載されていますね。

例文:

Some kids were whacking the tree with sticks.

He whacked his little sister on the head with a spoon.

Japanese businessman hit a sleeping woman in the face with his mobile phone after she started leaning on his shoulder.

The pair were filmed sitting next to each other on a packed commuter train with the woman already in a deep slumber.

Both were sitting on the train’s bench seat and the woman was holding her bag on her lap, next to the man in glasses and wearing a face mask.

As she began to gradually lean more and more towards her fellow passenger, he took his phone out of his briefcase as if to look at it – but instead of examining the screen he suddenly smacked her in the forehead.

slumber (noun)

Macmillan Dictionaryによると ” sleep というふうに記載されていますね。文学的な表現です。

例文:

She felt as if she had awakened from a long slumber.

I fell into a gentle slumber.

I didn’t want to rouse you from your slumbers.

Despite the incident taking place on a noisy train, the sound of the phone hitting her face can be clearly heard on the 16-second video.

As the blow registered, the woman slowly began to wake up and look around the carriage in a daze about what had just happened.

The suited man then calmly puts his smartphone back in his bag and acts as if nothing happened. 

A clip of the incident was posted on Twitter by @SakuradaPC with the caption, ‘I get that you don’t want her leaning against you…but that’s really messed up.

日本語では「もたれかかって来るのが嫌なのは分かるけど…それはあかんやろ…」と書かれています。

blow (noun)

Macmillan Dictionaryによると ” a hard hit from someone’s hand or an object というふうに記載されていますね。

例文:

The victim was apparently killed by a blow to the head with a heavy object.

a sharp blow to the stomach

He planted a blow on his opponent’s jaw.

To register (verb)

Macmillan Dictionaryによると ” to record, show, or express something: というふうに記載されていますね。

例文:

The earthquake was too small to register on the Richter scale.

His face registered extreme disapproval of what he had witnessed.

daze (noun)

Cambridge Dictionaryによると ” unable to think clearly: というふうに記載されていますね。

例文:

She was wandering around in a daze this morning.

Kevin seems to wander around in a daze half the time.

Some Twitter users questioned why the video was taken, but he said he started recording after the man had already hit her three times and so started recording in case their was a fourth attack.

Others defended the man saying he could have been accused of groping if he had used his hand to push her away.

Whereas some commenters called for the video to be sent to the police.  

The footage has been viewed more than 3 million times and retweeted by over 22,000 people.

Whereas (conjunction)

Cambridge Dictionaryによると ” compared with the fact that; but: というふうに記載されていますね。

例文:

He must be about 60, whereas his wife looks about 30.

You eat a huge plate of food for lunch, whereas I have just a sandwich.
