英字新聞を読むには各単語の形式を知ることが大事！
英語を勉強し始めたばかりの段階だと、教材と違って英字新聞を読むのはかなり難しいと思います。それぞれの新聞が独自の書き方をもっていたりもするので。なので、僕が補足をつけながら、英字新聞を読むのお手伝いしようと思います。教材の文法には慣れたけど英字新聞はまだ苦手という、初級ー中級あたりの人用の解説です。
何回も言いますが、新聞を読むためには各々の単語が名詞（noun）なのか、形容詞（adjective）なのか、副詞（adverb）なのかがめちゃくちゃ大事になってきます！文法はほんっっっっっっとうに大事です！！！一緒に一つずつやっていきましょう！僕の勉強がわりにもなっているので、僕が知っていることは飛ばしていたりします。なので、何かわからないことがあれば気軽にコメントください。できるだけ答えます！よろしくお願いします 😉

narrowly (adverb)

come within an inch of sth (phrase)
Macmillan Dictionaryによると ” to almost do something “というふうに記載されていますね。
例文：
She came within an inch of winning the match.
I came within an inch of losing my life on the rocks below.
This is the heart-stopping moment a young cyclist came within inches of being run over after he pulled out in front of a car.
Shocking dashcam footage captured the terrifying near miss, which took place when the young boy dashed in front of motorist Robert Allen.
Mr Allen, who is the Group Commander for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, had been driving along the A38 in Bromsgrove, Worcester, on Sunday.

pull out (phrasal verb)
Cambridge Dictionaryによると ” If a vehicle pulls out, it starts moving onto a road or onto a different part of the road: “というふうに記載されていますね。

She just pulled out in front of me without indicating!
near miss (noun)
Cambridge Dictionaryによると ” near thing a situation in which something almost hits something else: “というふうに記載されていますね。
例文：
A Boeing 747 was involved in a near miss with a private aircraft just south of San Francisco.
That was a near miss – we must have come within an inch of that lorry!
That was a near miss – he must have come within 50 feet of the other plane.
Some Australian climbers had a near miss at the summit.
in the distance (phrase)
Macmillan Dictionaryによると” at/to a place that is very far from where you are, although you can still see or hear things there “というふうに記載されていますね。
例文：
On a clear day you can see the temple in the distance.
We could just see the train approaching in the distance.
We could see the mountains in the distance.
The peaks of the Pyrenees could be seen in the distance.
His gaze shifted, and he stared into the distance.
He had reduced his speed to 49mph – when suddenly another cyclist shot out in front of his vehicle.
He slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to an abrupt stop just centimetres from the boy, who carries on into the central reservation.

slam the brakes on (phrase)
Macmillan Dictionaryによると” to put, move, or hit something against or onto a surface with great force ” というふうに記載されています。
例文：
She slammed the brakes on.
He slammed the brakes on (= used them quickly and with force) when a child ran in front of his car.
abrupt (adjective)
Macmillan Dictionaryによると” sudden and unexpected, often in an unpleasant way ” というふうに記載されています。
例文：
Our friendship came to an abrupt end.
an abrupt change/movement
Our conversation came to an abrupt end when George burst into the room.
There was an abrupt change in her mood.
We came to an abrupt curve in the road.
‘Today a child rode out in front of me, across the dual track, without looking!
rodeはrideの過去形で、発音はroadと同じです。
‘Thankfully I was driving under the speed limit & reacted quickly!
‘I saw the first kids so dropped back by 5mph to 49mph (it’s a 60), if I hadn’t I’d have hit him!
‘He came straight out from behind the wall to the left. I’ve seen drivers on phones and doing way over speed limit through there, just imagine…’
dual (adjective)
Cambridge Dictionaryによると” with two parts, or combining two things: ” というふうに記載されています。
例文：
This room serves a dual purpose – it’s both a study and a guest room.
