英字新聞を読み解く!!!Vol.260難易度★☆☆☆☆

英字新聞を読むには各単語の形式を知ることが大事!

英語を勉強し始めたばかりの段階だと、教材と違って英字新聞を読むのはかなり難しいと思います。それぞれの新聞が独自の書き方をもっていたりもするので。なので、僕が補足をつけながら、英字新聞を読むのお手伝いしようと思います。教材の文法には慣れたけど英字新聞はまだ苦手という、初級ー中級あたりの人用の解説です。

何回も言いますが、新聞を読むためには各々の単語が名詞(noun)なのか、形容詞(adjective)なのか、副詞(adverb)なのかがめちゃくちゃ大事になってきます!文法はほんっっっっっっとうに大事です!!!一緒に一つずつやっていきましょう!僕の勉強がわりにもなっているので、僕が知っていることは飛ばしていたりします。なので、何かわからないことがあれば気軽にコメントください。できるだけ答えます!よろしくお願いします 😉

rainfall (noun)

Cambridge Dictionaryによると” rain, or the amount of rain that falls: “というふうに記載されています。

例文:

Heavy rainfall ruined the match.

The average annual rainfall in this region is 750 mm.

Heavy rainfall is expected in the northwest.

Annual rainfall was lower last year than ever before.

passer-by (noun)

Cambridge Dictionaryによると” to defeat someone in a fight or competition: “というふうに記載されています。

例文:

A passer-by called the police.

A passer-by saw smoke and called the fire department.

To will (verb)

Macmillan Dictionaryによると” to make something happen by wishing for it very strongly “ というふうに記載されていますね。

例文:

She sat silently, willing him to continue.

She willedherself to remember his name.

She willed herself to remain optimistic.

This is the touching moment a young girl battles through the rain to complete her homework before school on the street as her mother sleeps beside her.

The footage shows  Lorensalie Elaine Dolfo, 8, outside an apartment block in Manila, Philippines, last Friday morning at around 7am.

Her mother Ellen, 40, and sister Alexandra, four, were sleeping next to the boiler room building having recently been made homeless when father and husband, Jerry, 42, became sick.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Elaine was determined to finish her school work as she covered her work in a coat during the heavy rainfall and winds.

Little Elaine can be seen trying to hold down the pages of her book as the strong wind keeps blowing them over.

As the rain soaks her – Elaine huddles closer over the page while writing with her pencil while continuing to hold the coat over her head to stop the water damaging her schoolbook.

Elaine told passer-by Rolando Villanueva that she wanted to be top of her class and get a good job to help her family.

To soak (verb)

Cambridge Dictionaryによると” to make something very wet, or (of liquid) to be absorbed in large amounts: “ というふうに記載されていますね。

soak up (phrasal verb)

Cambridge Dictionaryによると” to absorb or enjoy something that exists around you: “ というふうに記載されていますね。

例文:

She soaks up everything that’s said in class.

I just want to lie on the beach and soak up the sun.

To huddle (verb)

Cambridge Dictionaryによると” o come close together in a group, or to hold your arms and legs close to your body, especially because of cold or fear: “ というふうに記載されていますね。

例文:

Everyone huddled round the fire to keep warm.

Sophie was so frightened by the noise of the fireworks that she huddled (up) in a corner of the room.

She told Rolando: ‘I want to finish my homework and do well at school. Then I can have a good job and take care of myself and my family. I need to finish the work for the teacher.’

Elaine’s father, Jerry, is a tricycle taxi driver but had fallen ill and been unable to work. The family were then kicked out of their rented home a few days before the video was made.

tricycle (noun)

Macmillan Dictionaryによると” a person or thing that is very beautiful, especially a woman: “というふうに記載されています。

例文:

Our three-year-old loves her red tricycle.

She is a Grade 3 second honor student at the Aurora Quezon Elementary School in Manila.

Rolando said the little girl was an inspiration that reminds people about the importance of taking their education seriously and not neglecting it.

He said: ‘This is something that I will show my children so they remember how important it is to take school seriously. Everyone should remember how fortunate they are to have a good education.

‘Little Elaine will succeed in life. I am sure. She is so determined and very bright. She has lost her home and has nowhere comfortable but she still made it a priority to do her homework. It is very inspirational.’

honor student (noun)

Cambridge Dictionaryによると” a student whose work has earned them a place on a school’s honor roll “ というふうに記載されていますね。
