英字新聞を読むには各単語の形式を知ることが大事！
英語を勉強し始めたばかりの段階だと、教材と違って英字新聞を読むのはかなり難しいと思います。それぞれの新聞が独自の書き方をもっていたりもするので。なので、僕が補足をつけながら、英字新聞を読むのお手伝いしようと思います。教材の文法には慣れたけど英字新聞はまだ苦手という、初級ー中級あたりの人用の解説です。
何回も言いますが、新聞を読むためには各々の単語が名詞（noun）なのか、形容詞（adjective）なのか、副詞（adverb）なのかがめちゃくちゃ大事になってきます！文法はほんっっっっっっとうに大事です！！！一緒に一つずつやっていきましょう！僕の勉強がわりにもなっているので、僕が知っていることは飛ばしていたりします。なので、何かわからないことがあれば気軽にコメントください。できるだけ答えます！よろしくお願いします 😉

それでは英字新聞 読解スタートです！
まずは見出しをみていきましょう。
Mother-of-two gets eight weeks to live ‘after doctors mistook her stomach cancer for depression for two years’
Mother-of -twoは二児の母親です。
１つめの “for” は フレイザルバーブ “mistake for” の “for” です。
そして、２つめの “for” は時間を表す “for” になります。
mistake for (phrasal verb)
Macmillan Dictionaryによると” to think that a person or thing is someone or something else “と記載されていますね。
例文：
The gunman had mistaken him for a drug dealer.
I had mistaken friendship for love.
I often mistake her for her mother on the phone.
depression (noun)
Macmillan Dictionary によると“a medical condition in which a person is so unhappy that they cannot live a normal life “として記載されています。日本語にすると、”うつ病”ですね。
例文：
She suffered a lot from depression after the death of her husband.
・Friends now raising money for her to have ‘life-extending’ treatment in Germany
To raise (verb)
Macmillan Dictionary の３番目の意味によると” to collect money for a particular purpose “と記載されていますね！
例文：
We managed to raise over £4,000 through sponsored events.
We need your help to raise money for urgent medical research.
Tina Locke has been suffering with pains in her stomach and chest for two years but her family said she was only given antidepressants and treated for anxiety and chronic pain condition fibromyalgia.
“fibromyalgia “は線維筋痛症です。覚えなくて良いです。
antidepressants (noun)
一見、長くむずお足そうな単語でも、分解すると、
anti + depressants = 抗うつということがわかるかと思います。
Macmillan Dictionary によると” a drug used for treating someone who is depressed (=so unhappy that they are considered ill) “と記載されていますね。
例文：
She’s been on antidepressants ever since her husband died.
An investigation has since been launched into her care by bosses at Cwm Taf University Health Board in south Wales.
investigation (noun)
Cambridge Dictionaryによると” the act or process of examining a crime, problem, statement, etc. carefully, especially to discover the truth “と載っていますね。
留学中、新しく部屋を借りる際に”内見”をしますよね？それと同じ意味で使うこともありますので覚えましょう！
例文：
She is still under investigation by the Spanish police.
The cause of the fire is under investigation .
launch into (phrasal verb)
Macmillan Dictionaryによると” to start something such as an explanation, project, or attack with a lot of enthusiasm “と載っていますね!
例文：
He immediately launched into a detailed account of his trip.
Mrs Locke’s family said her cancer has now spread to lymph nodes in her abdomen and her ‘only chance of survival’ is immunotherapy treatment in Germany, which could cost up to £300,000.
“lymph node” リンパ節、”abdomen” 腹部、“immunotherapy” 免疫療法です。
ちょっと医学的な言葉なので、初心者の方は覚えなくていいと思います。
up to
Cambridge Dictionary によると” less than or equal to, but not more than, a stated value, number, level, or time: “と載っていますね！日本語にすると「最大で」です。
例文：
I can drink up to 6 bottles of beer.
You have up to ten minutes.
We can teach dancers up to intermediate level here.
The former hairdresser, who also acts as a carer to son Dylan, 15, was eventually diagnosed with signet ring cell adenocarcinoma, a form of cancer highly resistant to chemotherapy.
“signet ring cell adenocarcinoma”は病名ですね。読み飛ばして良いです。
carer (noun)
Cambridge dictionaryによると” someone who takes care of a person who is young, old, or sick “ と記載されていますね！
resistant to (adjective)
Macmillan dictionaryによると、“not harmed or affected by something ” と記載されていますね！
例文：
a disease that is resistant to antibiotics
chemotherapy (noun)
Cambridge dictionaryによると、“ the treatment of diseases using chemicals ” と記載されていますね！
例文：
Chemotherapy is often used in the treatment of cancer.
Her husband Jason told Wales Online she had been ‘let down by the NHS‘.
The National Health Service (NHS) = 国民保険サービスですね。
let down (phrasal verb)
The Beatles の曲で、 Don’t Let Me Downというのがありますが、”let someone down”で〇〇〇をがっかりさせるです。しかし、ここでは別の意味の方がしっくりくるかと思います。Macmillan Dictionaryの２つめの意味によると“to make someone or something less likely to be successful or effective”と載っていますね。
例文：
The whole system is let down by the poor quality of the graphics.
He said: ‘Nobody took her seriously because she looked so well. She begged the doctors to give her tests.
take someone/something seriously (phrasal)
Macmillan Dictionaryによると“to think that someone/something is important and should be given careful attention”と載っていますね。
例文：
Jonathan takes his gardening very seriously.
Don’t take everything he says so seriously.
‘It’s really shocking that this was allowed to happen. I will camp and protest on the steps of the Assembly until the money is given to send her to Germany. The NHS owes it to her.’
“this was allowed to happen.” ＝ こんなことが起こることが許される
良い表現だと思うので覚えましょう！

Macmillan Dictionaryの２つめの意味によると” to stay outside a place until you get what you want “と載っていますね!
例文：
Journalists had camped in front of the house.
Friends say they fear chemotherapy may cause the tumour to ‘explode’, leaving immunotherapy as the only ‘life-extending‘ treatment option.
“life expectancy” で平均寿命、”life-extending”で延命です。
よく使われる言葉なので覚えましょう！
tumour (noun)
Cambridge Dictionaryによると”a mass of diseased cells that might become a lump or cause illness”と載っていますね。
例文：
She died of a brain tumour.an operation to remove the tumour
To explode (verb)
ここでは爆発すると訳さずに、Macmillan Dictionaryの3つめの意味、” to increase a lot in size, amount, or importance over a very short period of time “を参照しましょう。
例文：
The population has exploded in the last ten years.
Close family friend Laura Obradovic-Eaves added the NHS was ‘refusing’ to help Mrs Locke by not approving immunotherapy in the UK.
To approve (verb)
Macmillan Dictionaryの２つめの意味、” to give official agreement or permission to something “を参照しましょう。
例文：
These chemicals were only approved for use in animal foods.
She said: ‘The family have argued their case to the NHS and asked them to skip the formalities of approval and give her the treatment here but so far they are refusing to help Tina.’
formality (noun)
Macmillan Dictionaryよると” something that must be done as part of an official process or that you are expected to do in a social situation “ と記載されていますね。形式(的)という意味です。
例文：
You’ll have to sign the visitors’ book, but it’s just a formality.
It was just a mere formality.
so far (phrase)
Macmillan Dictionaryよると” until now “ と記載されていますね。めちゃくちゃ大事な表現です。
例文：
So far we have restricted our attention to the local area.
There have been 11 deaths from TB so far.
So far they have raised £9,000 via a JustGiving page as well as charity events including a car boot sale and sponsored walks.
via (phrase)
Macmillan Dictionaryの２つめの意味によると” using a particular method or person to send or deliver something “ と記載されていますね。
例文：
It’s easy to check your bank account via the Internet.
I sent the application papers via fax.
I only found out about it via my sister.
as well as (phrase)
Macmillan Dictionaryによると” in addition to something or someone else “ と記載されていますね。
例文：
I need to go to the bookshop as well as the bank.
We have a responsibility to our community as well as to our families.
A spokesperson for Cwm Taf University Health Board said: ‘We are unable to comment on any individual patient and the circumstances surrounding their care.
‘However we are aware of this case and an investigation is under way.’
aware (adjective)
Macmillan Dictionaryによると” knowing about a situation or a fact “ と記載されています。
例文：
They’re aware of the dangers.
Were you aware of the risks at the time?
As far as I’m aware, he didn’t say anything of the kind.
under way or underway (adjective)
Macmillan Dictionaryによると” already started or happening “ と記載されています。
例文：
Rescue efforts are underway to find the lost climbers.
The concert got underway at exactly 8.00.
Economic recovery is already under way.
It’s time to get this project underway.
